At the AYCC, creating a safe, supportive environment for every child is at the heart of everything we do. This April, in recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, we’re joining organizations across the country in raising awareness, sharing resources, and empowering the community to take an active role in protecting children.
Child abuse prevention isn’t just the responsibility of one organization; it’s something we all play a role in. Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, coach, volunteer, or neighbor, you have the ability to make a difference in a child’s life.
Why Awareness Matters
Many signs of child abuse and neglect can be subtle, and they’re not always easy to recognize. That’s why education and awareness are so important. When adults are informed and attentive, they are better equipped to respond with care, compassion, and action when something doesn’t seem right.
At the AYCC, we are committed to maintaining strong safety practices, ongoing staff training, and a culture where youth feel seen, heard, and supported. But prevention goes beyond our walls; it extends to the entire community.
Learn the Signs. Be a Trusted Adult.
One of the most powerful things you can do is simply learn what to look for.
Changes in behavior, withdrawal, unexplained injuries, or sudden shifts in mood can all be indicators that a child may need help. Recognizing these signs early can make a meaningful difference.
We encourage everyone in our community to take a few minutes this month to explore the resources below and become more informed.
- AYCC Youth & Family Safety
- Boys & Girls Clubs of America – Child Safety
- YMCA of the USA – Child Protection & Five Days of Action®
- National Statistics on Child Abuse – National Children’s Alliance
- Praesidium Accreditation – the AYCC has two Certified Praesidium Guardians on Staff
- National Center for Missing & Exploited Children
- Lauren’s Kids
Building a Safer Community. Together.
Prevention starts with connection. When children have strong, supportive relationships with trusted adults, they are more likely to feel safe, speak up, and thrive.
At the AYCC, we strive to be that safe place; where kids can grow, learn, and build confidence in a positive environment. And with your help, we can extend that sense of safety even further.
Take Action Today
This month, we invite you to take a simple but meaningful step:
Learn the signs. Help protect youth in our community.
By staying informed and engaged, you become part of a network of caring adults that are committed to keeping children safe.
Together, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.
